Formed in November 1994, LALIENE played their first live in the spring of 1995 and soon followed with the release of 2 demo tapes. By the end of the year they also saw the addition of Mayu on guitar and Machi on drums.
The name of the band was changed to LAREINE in March 1996. For the next 3 years LAREINE carved their niche in the indies scene with 1 demo tape and 6 additional CD releases. They also did several livehouse tours which culminated in their last indies live on March 26, 1999 at Shibuya Koukaido.
On May 26, 1999, LAREINE made their major label debut with Sony Music Entertainment Records. They put forth a string of CD singles before releasing their first full album in February 2000. The album made it to No. 20 on the Oricon charts but despite this success, Mayu, Emiru, and Machi announced their departure from the band by May 2000. Kamijo forged ahead and started his own label, APPLAUSE RECORDS. He released 2 singles and 1 album before the year was over.
In October 2002, Kamijo, Mayu, Emiru, and Machi made a surprise appearance on stage at the APPLAUSE RECORDS Halloween Party. LAREINE subsequently reunited to produce their first post-hiatus effort, the CD single [chou no hana/lesson]. With Emiru returning on bass and newcomer Kazumi on drums, LAREINE played their comeback live on March 26, 2003 at Shibuya AX. Former guitarist Mayu rejoined the band soon after. Over the next few years, LAREINE continued on its path to success with several lives, CD releases, and special events. The band celebrated their 10th anniversary on March 26, 2005 with the promise of greater things to come.
On March 1, 2006, Kazumi played his last live with LAREINE at the Romance Kakumei event at Kanagawa Club Citta. He is withdrawing from the music industry to pursue other dreams.
